So it is Ceasefire time again, President Trump has already a couple of them under his belt, at least he claims to be instrumental in bringing them about. If he was ever to contest the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati with Amitabh Bachchan, he will get to the hot seat for sure, he is the fastest off the blocks or even without the blocks. His fingers must be itching if he doesn’t have any other ceasefire to take credit for. The ‘deadly’ Donald needs at least a ‘dozen’ of them, only then he can get back to ‘daydreaming’ where he can dream up some more. He could start with the Greek and the Romans, or the Crusades, then he could move on to the subcontinent, between Alexander and Porus on the banks of River Jhelum, as he believes we have been at war for thousand years, so starting from Tarai in 1191 where he got Prithviraj Chauhan to pardon Ghori, to facilitating the outcome between Ibrahim Lodhi and Babur in Panipat in 1526. It goes without saying that both the World Wars culminated when he mediated. He convinced China to back off from India in 1962 and Pakis to surrender in 1971.
But all that is history, now he has specialised in first igniting it and then extinguishing it, it is more fun this way. So bomb Iran and then be the peacemaker. He had of course promised to bring the Russians and Ukrainians around, also Israel and Hamas but they are proving to be tough nuts to crack. So he had to settle for Indo-Pak skirmish and Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, consolation prizes. I almost forgot, between Egypt and Ethiopia, as also between Kosovo and Serbia, not sure if they were at each other’s throats in the recent past. Even in case of Russia-Ukraine, you cannot fault him for not trying, the poor fellow was even ready to sign up treaties with the latter for mining their rich mineral wealth and then publicly rebuking him. Benjamin too turned a deaf ear when it was targeting Gaza, but he did listen finally when he had reduced it to rubble. If it was not for Trump, God only knows what else would Bibi unleash there.
His legendary negotiation skills need to be put to better use, we Indians can request him as we have feuds in millions going on in our courts. With his magic wand, he just has to utter the word “trade” and then rival parties in these cases will succumb to his charm. Imagine our judiciary, beleaguered by the mountains of cases will suddenly be without work and they can then focus full time on all the public interest litigations, which as per them appears to be their primary job. There is one more kingdom, where his services are urgently needed, the animal kingdom, the snake-mongoose rivalry also needs a truce, after all enough blood has been shed over millennia. Fireflies are scared that even they may be asked to cease their flights, with their existence itself threatened. Trade wars too need some respite, how about one between Pepsi and Coke, Android and IOS. Political parties too deserve some peace Democrats and Republicans, Labour and Tories, Congress and BJP. Final bastion would be religions, Protestants and Catholics, Hindu-Muslim-Christians,….. There are plenty to keep him busy for rest of his term. Just heard many a bridegrooms in India are in touch with him to use his good offices to save their skin from their brides as well.
It is high time the Nobel Committee award him the Peace Prize, after all they haven’t really covered themselves with glory in the past either. They did give it to Obama for God knows what, and ignored the apostle of peace Gandhiji himself. So just do the needful, get it over with, then may be he will be at peace with himself and the world too will finally get on with life. Else you never know, which one will he lay claim to next.
